Deaf & Autism Family Day

HDR is proud to host the annual Deaf & Autism Family Day on Sept. 7 from 10 am - 1 pm. (Advance registration required).

Sponsored by the Colorado chapter of Hands & Voices, this special day at the ranch is for children who have a dual diagnosis of deaf/hard-of-hearing and an autism spectrum disorder. Families who navigate hearing differences and neurodivergence have unique needs and are often under-resourced.

This annual event always offers a lot of fun with the animals and provides much-needed networking and education for parents.

Advanced Horse's Brain Workshop

Advanced Horse’s Brain Science and Behavior

Dr. Steve Peters is a neuroscientist specializing in brain functioning. As a horse brain researcher, he has given numerous seminars on equine brain science throughout the U.S. and Canada. He is the co-author with Martin Black of the book Evidence-Based Horsemanship.

This unique clinic features not only the most current scientific research about equine brains, but also demonstrations by Mark Rashid. You'll see in real-time how working with horses and applying the knowledge of how a horse perceives the world can be beneficial to building a stronger relationship. A morning lecture on advanced horse neuroscience will be followed by lunch and demonstrations by Mark, with Dr. Peters to help you understand the applications of scientific concepts.

*All participants must have either attended “Your Horse’s Brain: A User’s Manual” or watched the DVD of the same name. We will take your word that you’ve fulfilled this requirement. We will not be reviewing equine brain science topics that have already been covered in that course/DVD.

Dates: July 16-17

Times: 9 am – 4 pm with a lunch break from 12 – 1 pm; lunch is included.
